This week I supported Shanti Das in her 4th annual No Reservations Needed food drive and dinner! We all collected and served food to about  500 people on Tuesday at the Atlanta Missions. Amongst those that were serving was legendary producer Teddy Riley and Keisha Knight Pulliam from The Cosbys Show. The event went really well. Many came out to donate items as well as volunteer. I was conversing with this one homeless man and he was showing me his autograph pictures and stuff that Teddy Riley had just gave him. He was so excited that some of personalities for the radio stations were there and told me that he knew one day he would see these people he would hear on radio in person. We talked about Elton John and Drakes performance that happened during Music Midtown, at piedmont park earlier this year. We had a good conversation.  Man I thought to myself like if I was homeless, I think i’d just be excited about the food and wouldn’t care about all this other stuff. He’s excitement reminded me of my excitement and how I was seeing all this stuff when I moved to Atlanta. It just dawned on my as I was writing, that I think that that man is supposed to be doing something in music. I’m really glad he got to experience this.

One thing I noticed over the years is that the music community in Atlanta really takes care of their people during the holidays. This week alone Future, Mike Will, Ludacris, K camp, and Jeezy all had different individual functions that were comprised of feeding families and collecting supplies and food for people. That really makes me feel good like everyone who’s in need in Atlanta will have an opportunity to eat on Thanksgiving. I feel so grateful and blessed to be living in a place like Atlanta.
